In this thought-provoking episode of “Mind Over Addiction” our host, Bruna Tomsic, sits down with Dr. Margo Livingston. She explores Three Principles, an innovative method that her Sanctuary charity uses to help people recover from drug or alcohol misuse.
Currently, deaths related to drug misuse are at their highest level since 1993. Last year, around 2.7 million people had taken an illicit drug. There were 339 thousand estimated admissions related to alcohol consumption in 2015/16 (source: NHS Digital, England and Wales).
Three Principles of: Universial Mind, Universial Consciousness and Universial Thought is a book from Sydney Banks, which prompted Margo to start the charity and provide support to everyone with an addiction.
He subsequently helped thousands of people recover from mental health and life challenging issues; his work has been recognised by some in the field of psychology and psychiatry as the new paradigm in treating mental health problems, including addiction. The theory helps addicts realise that their thoughts, not an illness, are the cause of their addictive behaviour and that this understanding can actually help turn addicts away from using drugs or alcohol.
The main purpose of the podcast will be to explore this method in more details and look into what makes this approach so different from other traditional methods of psychological intervention. For example: The 12 step programme, Cognitive and Mindfulness based therapies and Positive Psychology. Furthermore, we talk about Margo’s beginnings and why she decided to create a charity in the first place and what are its future plans.
