Cobblers take on Wigan Athletic in a must win!

Northampton Town host former Premier League side Wigan Athletic in a bottom of the table tussle. The Cobblers are still looking for their first win of 2021, their last victory came on the 29th December 2020, in a 3-1 victory over Gillingham. Wigan Athletic are also looking for their first win of 2021. They last got all 3 points in an entertaining affair with Burton Albion, winning 4-3 on the 29th December 2020.

While both teams currently sit in the relegation zone, there are only 3 points between them, with the Cobblers currently sat in 22nd place on 24 points and Wigan one place below in 23rd on 21 points.

Cobblers boss Keith Curle says the re arranged fixture on Tuesday night is obviously important, but won’t define the season.

“Every game we’ve got an opportunity to get three points, people will highlight the importance of games against teams in and around us but whatever happens, this week won’t decide our season,

Two good results this week would put us in a better position and what we need to do is put a run of results together. There will be twists and turns right to the end of the season and the coupon buster on Saturday was probably Burton beating Hull.

You can’t guarantee where your points will come from and we need to make sure we are competitive in every single game we play”.

In the reverse fixture, Northampton Town came away with an impressive 3-2 away win.

Both teams have fully fit squads to choose from, and despite some flurries of snow on the pitch, the game looks set to get ahead at the PTS Academy Stadium.

Kickoff at 7pm.
